The End of the Beginning

"Day 13... (the end of the beginning) It is the last day of our trip and I feel bitter sweet about leaving. These past two weeks have been filled with teaching, learning, leading, loving, laughter, sadness, awe, and so much more! I have learned a lot about traveling the trail and a lot more about traveling through life, especially as a leader..."

The excerpt above is from the group journal that our students kept over the course of their 14-day Created for Purpose expedition. Each day, one of the students would recount the day- as they experienced it- as a written record for the entire group.

Something interesting happened as day 14 approached; while there was a clear sense of anticipation for celebrating all the challenging and rewarding work that the group had completed during their the two week journey, there was also a sense of something else- not an end but a beginning. These students were just getting started, and they knew it.

So as parents arrived to shuttle their students back home, phase two of Created for Purpose began. For the next eleven months, each student will be mentored and encouraged to fully apply themselves as leaders in their home communities, schools, churches, and social circles. They will find opportunities to put into practice all that they have learned and discovered in their expedition experience.

So we do celebrate the completion of our first ever Created for Purpose expedition, and we thank all the individuals, families, and churches that have stepped in to make this vision a reality. But we also celebrate, in advance, all that is to come from the mentoring process. Here we go!
